Cette deuxième édition contient en fait 105 illustrations, dont chacune est commentée par une note que j’ai rédigée à l’attention des collectionneurs du Paris d’AKAGI. Certains m’ont dit que ce recueil pouvait constituer un très bon guide sur Paris, mais mon idée n’est pas du tout de faire un guide ! Je conçois ce recueil davantage comme les mémoires d’un Japonais à Paris en 2014, retracées sous forme de 100 vues de la capitale. La traduction peut être en anglais ou en français, mais je souhaite que l’original en japonais figure en dessous.</p> This book contains my special selection of 100 views of Paris in lithography. The selection was made by myself from my completed works and may therefore be regarded as my specially edited private collection. I have almost 500 original drawings of Paris after my 40 years of work. The 100 prints I selected for this book were taken from over 100 prints of those 500 drawings. I did not print them especially for this book like Hiroshige’s “100 famous views of Edo” or Hokusai’s “100 famous views of Mount Fuji” so the title of this book may not be appropriate perhaps. This book is rather like a series of notes stating why I printed these particular views. Le 5 juin 1936, le Front populaire est formé en France. Au Japon a lieu le coup d’état du 26 février. Le 11 juin de la même année sont votés les premiers congés payés de 15 jours par an. Le lendemain, le 12 juin est instauré la semaine de 40 heures de travail par semaine, au lieu de 48, et deux jours de repos hebdomadaire. Pour la première fois, des vacances sont accordées aux travailleurs, y compris aux ouvriers. Jusqu’à ce jour, les vacances étaient réservées à l’aristocratie, à la bourgeoisie et à toutes les personnes issues des classes dominantes. Désormais, tout le monde quitte les villes pour partir dans les stations balnéaires ou à la campagne à la recherche de soleil. Si le Front Populaire n’a duré que deux ans, le système de congés payés a perduré et un véritable culte s’est développé pour le droit aux vacances. Aujourd’hui, elles sont passées à cinq semaines, soit 37 jours de congé payés par an. Pendant les mois de juillet et août, de nombreux touristes étrangers envahissent Paris. Mais une fois que l’on s’éloigne des grands axes, on s’aperçoit que dans les petites ruelles il n’y a pas grand monde et que c’est très calme. The Popular Front cabinet was established on June 5th 1936 (in Japan that was the year when the February 26 incident took place) and on June 11th the convention of having 15 days paid vacation annually was established. The next day the five-day workweek was established, changing working hours from 48 hours per week to 40. For the first time, workers and common people were given vacation. Avoiding the summer heat by taking holidays had been enjoyed by aristocrats, the bourgeoisie and the upper class until then: now all Parisians started leaving the city, rushing to summer resorts in the country in pursuit of the sun.The Popular Front cabinet lasted only two years but the vacation system remained as an almost sacred institution for the French who are now paid for vacations totalling over 5 weeks, 37 days, annually.
